Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader MPA Faisal Subzwari, talking to reporters on Wednesday, dispelled rumours that he was parting ways with the party or there were any rifts within its ranks.
Subzwari, who has submitted his resignation along with other MQM lawmakers from his assembly seat, while speaking at a press conference at the Khursheed Begum Memorial Hall said certain elements were trying to create an impression among MQM activists that the party was divided.
“The MQM is a democratic political party in which all decisions are made collectively after discussions and such rumours are completely baseless,” he added.
Subzwari, who is usually vocal on the media, was in the US for sometime and his absence from the political scene had raised questions.
“This was not the first time that I went to the US, but frequently travel there for personal reasons,” he added.
Accompanied by other party MPAs including Haider Abbas Rizvi and Saman Jaffery, Sabzwari asked MQM activists and the public to not believe in the rumours.
In the recent past, there were media reports about the formation of a new MQM excluding Altaf Hussain and including former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal and Subzwari.
“The presence of key leaders of the MQM before the media proves that the party is united under the leadership of its chief Altaf Hussain,” said Subzwari.
He said the MQM was passing through a difficult phase, but it would make it through successfully like it did in 1992 when all forces were trying to eliminate it, but had failed.”
“We are being silenced and state aggression is continuing against the MQM, but all this is not new for us,” he added. “We firmly believe that only Altaf Hussain can save us from these conspiracies and crisis.”
To a question, he said MQM lawmakers were elected under the party’s umbrella and were bound to obey the instructions of its chief. “Certain forces are trying to create rifts in the party but our collective resignations from the assemblies proved that we are united.”
