An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday remanded Wasee Hyder, accused of murdering prominent clerics, in police custody on a 14-day physical remand.
Hyder is said to be involved in the target killings of Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai, Maulana Abdul Majeed Deenpuri, Hafiz Mohammad Ahsan and other religious leaders, besides a policeman and also an employee of the Sindh High Court.
He was arrested on Sunday and rushed to court on Monday morning. According to the Investigation Officer, Hyder admitted to the targeted killings of a police officer and several religious leaders.
The court was requested to grant physical remand of the accused so he could be interrogated about the target killings and the whereabouts of his companions.
The court allowed the plea and directed the Investigation Officer to produce him in court after 14 days. Hyder was arrested by the police on Sunday from the jurisdiction of FB Area police station and is allegedly affiliated with a political party.
The investigators claim that he killed Mufti Shamzai on May 31, 2004, and Maulana Deenpuri on January 31, 2013.
He is also said to have killed a police officer, Nasirul Hassan, an SHC employee Basheer Ahmed and three activists of a political party during the 2013 general election. The home department had announced head money worth Rs5 million for Hyder’s arrest.
