50 heritage sites included in list of dangerous buildings

Fifty heritage sites across the city, including the poultry block of Saddar’s historic Empress Market, have been declared dangerous by the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA).
A list compiled by the authority, dated August 20, mentions 30 of the 50 heritage buildings that have now been declared dangerous structures.
On July 28, the SBCA had declared 288 buildings across the metropolis unsafe for living. As per a statement issued, a list of potentially dangerous structures had been compiled by the Technical Committee for Dangerous Buildings on the directives of SBCA's acting DG Mumtaz Haider. The committee comprised senior architects and engineers who made their decision after a survey of all potentially dangerous structures.
However, in the updated August 20 list, a total of 306 buildings have been declared dangerous across Karachi’s 14 towns, including 168 in Saddar Town-I, 48 in Saddar Town-II and 11 in Jamshed Town.
The 30 dangerous heritage sites included in the new list are as follows;
