An artist’s innovative ideas and captivating images are hidden within tranquillity, even minor distractions could make them lose track of ideas encircling their mind, leaving them annoyed and irritated, said artist S M Raza in a talk with The News at the Full Circle Gallery this past week.
The young artist, in a bid to explain an artist’s relation with peace, decided to ask his family to paint self-portraits which have now been put on display along with his artworks.
“It is quite disturbing when I am talked to or called out for an errand while I’m painting,” Raza said.
Halfway into the exercise, my family realised the importance of providing an artist a free and relaxed space, he explained.
Sharing his experience of reproducing the famous Dutch post-impressionist Vincent Van Gogh’s ‘The Potato Eaters’, he claimed the artist had served as an inspiration for him and he had attempted to transform the idea on contemporary lines. His other artworks ranging from domestic life portraits to travelling experiences were also put on display.
Veteran artist M Rustam Khan while commenting on Raza’s artworks appreciated his energy and acknowledged his art skills, claiming he had a long way to go.
Senior artist Shahnaz Adamjee’s work was also exhibited.
Khan while commenting on Shahnaz’s collection of work on display said, “Her work is an emotional response to the world she lives in and is a reflection of her own person.”
“The paintings are complex and subtle, but a close observation gives out the pattern of her brush strokes, the way she mixes her colours...outlines the elements as mere shadows of what they could be in reality” The artwork would be on display till September 11.
