Supermodel Ayyan Ali's visit to the Karachi University’s Department Of Public Administration to inaugurate a social initiative drew the varsity administration's ire as show-cause notices were reportedly issued to two student organisers after the event.
The event itself had passed by without any incident as the students and faculty members accorded the guest a warm welcome and participated fully in a Q&A session. The model, who has been subjected to intense and often excessive media scrutiny following her March arrest in a money laundering case, took the opportunity to advocate the need for people to give facts more importance than unfounded rumours.
“We all must base our opinions on actual facts, rather than blindly following what others are saying,” she said.
Ayyan, who was set free on bail on July 16 after spending four months in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, was awarded an honorary shield and her presence was much appreciated by the hosts and audience.
However, as news of the model's visit took over, first, the social media and then the electronic media, the KU administration issued show cause notices to two students for inviting the model without prior permission.
