Amid stringent security measures, Chairman Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited the passport office in the Saddar area on Monday afternoon for the renewal of his passport.
Under VIP-level status, Bilawal went through the whole process swiftly, spending only five to seven minutes from getting photographed to submitting the particulars, sources said.
A heavy contingent of police was deployed in the surroundings of the passport office under heightened security measures during his visit. All roads and streets in the vicinity, including parts of Sir Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullah Road, Court Road, Shahrah-e-Liaquat and Clarke Street, were closed for traffic.
The district municipal administration had removed piles of garbage from around the passport office ahead of Bilawal’s arrival in the area. Of late, Bilawal has started playing an active role in reorganising his party, which is facing various allegations, including bad governance in Sindh where it has been in power for more than seven years. He has held meetings with several PPP leaders from Punjab, where his party faces tough challenge to revive itself.
