An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to three men for killing a policeman and other terrorist activities.
Riaz Ahmed, Abdul Shakoor alias Billa and Abdul Sattar were accused of murdering police constable Farman Ali and injuring another, Asghar Ali, on September 23, 2013 near National Highway, within the jurisdiction of the Malir police station.
The convicts were also accused of an alleged police encounter as well as possession of explosive materials.
The court while taking into account the nature of their crimes sentenced them to life imprisonment and also ordered to confiscate all movable and immovable properties of the three convicts.
While explaining its judgement, the court observed that the accused were young which was they were not awarded harsh punishment to provide them with an opportunity to abide by the law.
A fine of Rs50,000 each was imposed; a failure to pay which may result in an additional nine months imprisonment.
