The vice chancellor of Karachi University, Prof Dr Muhammad Qaiser, has resumed additional charge of the vice chancellor of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (Fuuast) from Tuesday.
Dr Zafar Iqbal, who was appointed Fuuast VC on January 31, 2014, had earlier been sent on forced leave for three months by a meeting of the Senate. The meeting had told him to appear before an inquiry commission constituted with retired Justice Haziq-ul-Khairi as its head to face the allegations of irregularities and misappropriation of funds levelled against him.
However, Dr Iqbal refused to do so and went to the Sindh High Court against the Senate decision. Besides the Fuuast Senate, the president of Pakistan being chancellor of the University had also asked Dr Iqbal to vacant the post and face inquires. On Monday, a division bench which dismissed Dr Iqbal’s petition through a short order would issue its detail order in the coming days.
