Two kidnappers were gunned down late on Friday night in an encounter with a team of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Karachi.
According to SSP Mohammed Farooq Awan, the SIU conducted an intelligence-driven raid at a hideout in the Mauripur area. In the ensuing shootout, two criminals were critically injured and later succumbed to their wounds. Three of their accomplices, however, managed to escape.
The killed criminals were identified as Ghulam Rasool Bugti alias Shool and Ataullah Khosa. SSP Awan said the men were members of an inter-provincial gang involved in a number of kidnapping for ransom cases in Karachi, interior Sindh and Balochistan. Both men, he added, had been previously convicted in kidnapping cases. Two pistols and ammunition were found in their possession.
The SSP identified Ghulam Rasool as the front-man of a notorious gang led by Ghafoor Bugti, who had been killed in an earlier operation. The gang’s most recent abduction case involved a farm owner named Saleem who was kidnapped for the Hub River area and released after a payment of Rs5 million. An FIR of the case was lodged at the Mochko police station.
