Karachi The K-Electric (KE) on Friday claimed that despite heavily suffering from outstanding dues from the education ministry which exceeds Rs247 million, the electric company has exempted more than 70 percent of the matriculation examination school centers from load shedding. The KE official reiterated that the Board of Secondary Education Karachi had sent a letter to the power company a day before the commencement of the exams in which the education department requested the KE to exempt more than 400 schools from the regular power cut. “It is difficult to exempt more than 400 schools; however, we will be exempting more than 70 percent of such schools of load-shedding from Monday”; said the spokesman, He further remarked that not only the schools are spread all over the city but also as some of them are present in very high electricity loss areas hence granting exemption on such short notice is difficult. The education ministry has been a defaulter of more than Rs247 million but the KE would not like to suffer the students due to the sheer negligence and ill-management of the ministry, he added. The KE spokesman also appealed the government to show responsibility by directing the education ministry to clear its dues so that the students are not affected due to inattentiveness shown by the concerned ministry, he stated.

Hundreds of students appearing at examination centres are giving papers in absent of power supply; meanwhile their exam preparations are also getting affected due to prolonged and unannounced power cuts, he further stated. Zaman stated, “The K-Electric has made the life miserable for the people of Shah Faisal Colony and nearby localities by undefined, continuous and unscheduled, so-called load shedding.”
