Seven activists of the banned terrorist outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan were sent on a physical remand, till April 2, by an anti-terrorism court (ATC-I) on Wednesday.
Iftikahr Hussain, Nafees Ahmed, Waseem Ahmed, Waris Khan, Muhammad Farooque, Zahid Hussain and Salar Iftikhar Shah were arrested on March 24 following a police encounter in the Shah Latif Town area.
According to police officials, seven hand grenades, five pistols, two rifles and other illegal weapons were seized from the possession of the activists, hailing from Waziristan.
The activists were also alleged to have motivated people for Jihad against the state and the government.
10-year imprisonment
An ATC awarded 10 years’ imprisonment to an extortionist also said to be involved in Lyari gang-war.
The court observed, the prosecution had proved charges of extortion and possession of explosive materials against the accused, Zulfiqar, arrested in 2009 following an encounter with the Kalri police; a fine of Rs50,000 was also imposed.
