TOBA TEK SINGH: A woman was killed and five others were injured in a clash between two political groups at Chak 294/GB on Tuesday. Farzand Ali Gujjar of the PML-N and Faryad Gujjar of the National Muslim League, both defeated candidates for the UC-51 chairman slot, along with their supporters allegedly opened fire at each other over an issue of laying of a gas pipeline in a street. As a result, Azmat Bibi, grandmother Faryad, was killed on the spot while his supporter Farzand Nawab was injured. Four workers of the PML-N, Farzand Ali Gujjar, his brother Sardar Ali Gujjar, sister Sakeena and relative Bhutta Rehmat Gujjar, were also injured. The injured people were shifted to the DHQ Hospital from where Sardar Ali was referred to the Faisalabad Allied Hospital due to his critical condition. Meanwhile, a passerby, Maqbool Ahmad, who was injured during a clash between workers of the PML-N and the PTI at Chak 293/JB on Monday night, died at the Faisalabad Allied Hospital on Tuesday. Three other persons were also injured in the incident.

Two women recovered, three ‘kidnappers’ held in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The local police during separate actions recovered two abducted women and arrested three alleged kidnappers, an official said on Tuesday. He said that a teenage girl, Nighat, was kidnapped from the limits of the Khazana Police Station on November 6 while a woman Razia was picked up from Maqsoodabad in the jurisdiction of the same police station on November 7. While working out both the cases, the police recovered the women and arrested three alleged kidnappers Rahman, Chaman Gul and Rafiullah.

PTI leader among four booked for torturing bank employee

FAISALABAD: The Sargodha Road police have registered a case against PTI leader Rana Mubashir and three others on the charge of torturing a bank employee Muhammad Ramzan and hurling threats to him. According to a complaint lodged by the bank employee, he was going to his house when the accused stopped him near Millat Chowk and tortured him. The accused also threatened him of dire consequences and sent an objectionable message on his mobile phone. The case has been registered under Sections 25-D of the Telegraph Act and 505/11/34 of the PPC.

BoP manager shot dead in Chakwal

CHAKWAL: The Bank of Punjab Chakwal branch manager was shot dead at his residence in Mohallah Rehmania on Tuesday. Muhammad Iqbal told police that his son Waseem Iqbal came back from the bank when two unidentified assailants knocked at his door and shot him dead when he came out. Waseem had two wives and was residing with his second wife. His father suspected that relatives of Waseem’s first wife were behind the killing. Reportedly, brothers and father of his first wife were threatening him of dire consequences.

ECP appoints DRO for PP-89 by-polls

TOBA TEK SINGH: The ECP on Tuesday appointed Regional Election Commissioner, Lahore, Tahir Mansoor Khan as the district returning officer for PP-89 (Toba Tek Singh) by-elections scheduled to be held on January 6, 2016. It also appointed Faisalabad District Election Commissioner Kamran Hussain as the returning officer and the Pirmahal assistant commissioner and the Pirmahal deputy district education officer as the assistant returning officers. The nomination papers will be filed by the candidates for by-elections on December 1 and 2. The seat fell vacant after the death of PML-N MPA Makhdoom Ali Raza Shah.

17 injured in Multan accident

MULTAN: Seventeen people, including three women, sustained injuries when a speeding jeep collided with a van near Chowk Nag Shah on Multan-Shujabad Road on Tuesday. Some of the injured were identified as Begum Nayar, 32, Muhammad Farooq, 34, Muhammad Imran, 27, Muhammad Muneer, 25, Syed Hassan Ali, 25, Shamim, 45, Shaukat (40), Adeel, 9, Kishwar Sultana, 26, Manzoor, 52, Wahid Bakhsh, 50, Nasim, 45, Adeel Iqbal,45, Wahid Bakhsh, 45. The injured were shifted to the Nishtar Hospital.

Man, son murdered over minor issue

MALAKWAL: A man and his son were killed by their relative over a minor issue at Mauza Rukan in Gojra police limits on Tuesday. Umer Hayat, 80, had some dispute with his relative Safdar. On the day of the incident, Umer Hayat and his 50-year-old son Muhammad Nawaz were going to the fields when Safdar along with his accomplices allegedly shot them dead. Police have registered a case and started investigation.

Unauthorised medical store sealed

HARIPUR: An unauthorised private medical store established in government building at Rural Health Centre (RHC) of remote Mera Kalinger village was sealed on Tuesday. Official sources said that following public complaints, Deputy Commissioner Tasleem Khan along with Public Information Officer Qasim Shah raided the RHC in Maira Kalinger. They found a medical technician Rafiq running his private store in the government hospital. The RHC had all kind of equipment, including an X-Ray plant donated by the Save the Children.

GCT student shot dead

BAHAWALPUR: A student of the Government College of Technology (GCT) was shot dead on Tuesday.Sohail Asghar was sitting at a shop of a mechanic near the Bahawalpur railway station when Hamza Chaudhry and Saifi Shah allegedly came and shot him dead. After the killing, hundreds of students of the GCT and other colleges staged a protest outside the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) and demanded the arrest of killers.
