PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak Thursday said that the provincial government had initiated a survey to ascertain needs of medical colleges, engineering universities and other higher educational institutions in all districts of the province and new college and universities would be established on the basis of the survey.
Talking to a 200-memeber delegation of Haripur district here, the chief minister disclosed that construction of over 13,000 additional rooms in government primary schools, boundary walls of about 1000 schools and provision of drinking water and other basic facilities there would now be the responsibility of the newly-elected district governments.
The delegation led by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Yousaf Ayub Khan comprised of the office-bearers of the district PTI, lawyers, traders, chamber of commerce and ulema as well as large number of newly elected local councilors.
The chief minister said that measures were underway for posting the required and equal number of teachers, doctors, medical technicians and nurses in all districts and for this purpose 1500 new doctors had already been employed while appointment of 500 more doctors was under process. He added that services of such professionals would be made non-transferable once they would be posted in districts.
Pervez Khattak said that all tiers of local governments would perform their functions independently and their functions had been determined to avoid any ambiguity or interference in each other’s affairs.
Urging the councillors to make the LG system a success in accordance with spirit of the Local Government Act 2013, he said that overwhelming powers and considerable financial resources have been devolved to the local governments.
He, however, said that the local councillors would have to deliver with devotion, sincerity and commitment to serve the common people particularly the poor and helpless.
