ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Monday protested outside the Parliament House against ongoing operation in Karachi and alleged that it was targeted to the MQM.
Talking to newsmen outside, Dr Farooq Sattar alleged that violation of law and constitution is being carried out by ‘the law enforcers’ in Karachi. Earlier, he stood up in the National Assembly to raise this issue on a point of order but the house was adjourned for Asr prayers and then the MQM legislators come outside the Parliament House to register their protest and talk with the media.
Sattar said MQM was being made target of political vengeance and even the party’s senators were being harassed. He said restaurant of an MQM legislator, Ali Raza Abdi, was raided in Karachi. He demanded an end to what he called the persistent attempts to label MQM as a traitor.
He claimed that 40 workers of MQM were killed extra-judicially and that Karachi operation was not being undertaken to stamp out terrorism. “200 MQM workers were killed in targeted actions while 150 workers were subjected to enforced disappearance,” he alleged. He condemned those who filed a case of treason against MQM chief Altaf Hussain and called upon the prime minister, interior minister and chief minister Punjab to take notice of the matter. He said his party was trying to seek a meeting with the prime minister but it is not getting an appointment.
He said how could durable peace be made possible when one party is being meted out such discriminatory treatment. He reiterated the claim that an ethnic genocide was underway in Karachi and this is only going to fan hatred among people.
