Police, Rangers doing good job: Qaim

Says Sindh not to accept federal govt’s interference in law, order which is purely provincial subject

SUKKUR: Police and Rangers are doing a good job in order to maintain law and order situation said Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Thursday.
He was talking to media at the Daraza Sharif in Khairpur after inaugurating annual Urs celebrations of Sachal Sarmast. He laid floral wreath at the grave of the mystic poet. “Sindh government has no need of any force and would not accept any interference of the federal government over maintenance of law and order situation, which is purely provincial subject,” the chief minister said.
He said the federally controlled FIA and NAB, by violating the 18th Amendment and provincial autonomy, were interfering in the administrative affairs of the Sindh government. The CM said he had taken up this serious issue with Prime Minister during the latters Karachi visit. He said even there is a federal-based act - the Anti-terrorism Act, which was also being implemented by the Sindh government because it is the mandate of the Sindh government under Section 4 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
He reiterated that Rangers and police were doing well for maintaining law and order situation in Karachi. They curbed target killings, terrorism, extortion and other crimes in Karachi. Shah said the Sindh government has made tremendous achievements. It eliminated gangs of dacoits and added that the progress and performance of Sindh police and Sindh government should be applauded.
The CM said he took up various issues with the prime minister, including promotion of the agricultural sector and lining of canals to control salinity and water logging. He said paddy cultivation was banned at the Left Bank and the growers are now cultivating cotton and getting good yield of 15 to 40 maunds per acre. He said paddy was being cultivated at Right Bank, where its per acre production had increased from 30 to 80 maunds.
He said the World Bank was also supporting the Sindh government for promotion of the agricultural sector.The chief minister said he had also discussed NFC and taxation issues with the prime minister and informed him that Rs60 billion of the NFC Award were not being provided by Centre to Sindh. The formula for this amount was set in 2010. Qaim Ali Shah said Rs140 billion is the development budget of the province out of which Rs49 billion have been allocated only for Karachi, where there are nine mega projects.
The chief minister said Rs40 million as funds for development schemes had been released to each MPA. The Supreme Court had earlier banned the release of funds to MPAs, but it lifted the ban.
Addressing at the Urs celebrations, Syed Qaim Ali Shah referred to Sufi University he had announced last year and said its Campus would be in Daraza Sharif, where the construction would soon begin.
He said the poetry of the mystic poet Sachal Sarmast discouraged terrorism and promoted peace and love, which is the need of the time and universal. He said dictators were anti-democracy, but the masses and the PPPP protected it as PPPP believes in democracy. He said attempts being made to derail democracy but masses would never tolerate it.
He said unemployment had not ended completely, but said only the PPPP regime provide jobs to youth. He recalled that dictators had sent home 25,000 employees from Centre and 6,000 thousands from Sindh. He said the restored these employees after it came into power.
The CM said he never allowed the central government to cut financial share of Sindh. He said he determined to get the right of Sindh and is getting it. He said the local bodies’ elections would be held and said the Sindh government will transfer funds to the local bodies for development of their areas. He said Sindh government does not depend upon revenue collected from Auqaf department. He said the collections from Shrines would be utilised on the development Shrines.
