PESHAWAR: The Ehtesab Commission Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday arrested the owner of a private sector university in a land scam.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Iqra University Peshawar, Obaid-ur-Rehman, son of Fayyaz-ur-Rehman, was arrested for allegedly acquiring 20 kanal of government land illegally. As per the commission communiqué, the arrest was made in connection with allotment of government prime land near Bagh-i-Naran Sports Complex in Phase-2 Hayatabad Town dishonestly at the rate much below the market value.
It said the total loss to the provincial exchequer was approximately Rs150 million. The commission produced the CEO of the Iqra University in the Ehtesab Court headed by a judge, Hayat Ali Shah, and obtained his 13 days physical remand for further investigation. Additional Deputy Prosecutor General Qazi Babar Irshad had appeared in the case and sought physical remand of the accused in the land scam.
