SUKKUR: The Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, cancelled on Sunday the appointment orders of 23 watchmen (Chowkidars) who had been appointed in the month of April 2015.
The VC announced emergency on Sunday (a holiday), summoned the administration staff through Registrar SALU and within an hour typed a letter of cancellation of the orders of 23 newly-appointed watchmen (Chowkidars) and issued the letter of cancellation of their appointment letters.
Registrar SALU Professor Syed Asad Raza Abidi said the appointments were not proper technically. He said the SSP Khairpur had visited the university and expressed concerns over security issues.
He said the selection committee of the SALU also had objection to the appointment of unskilled persons. When asked why didn’t the university recruit security men through advertisement from registered security companies, he replied that former registrars did so without following the rules. He claimed he was not aware of the process but now transparency would be ensured.
He said there was no political pressure behind the cancellation of the appointment orders. Insiders political heavyweights had asked the VC as to how the appointments were made when they had not recommended the names for a job.
Insiders said the VC attempted to justify the appointments, but was ordered to cancel them and follow the recommended list. Meanwhile, watchmen Jani Rind, Imdad Phulpoto and others were shocked over the action of the authorities and said cancellation of their appointment orders were politically motivated. They said depriving them of employment was against their fundamental rights.
