ISLAMABAD: A Senator, belonging to Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Usman Kakar on Monday proposed legislation to make it mandatory for members of the Parliament and ministers to get their children educated at government schools.
Speaking on a motion on education, the Senator from Balochistan, emphasised that it should also be mandatory for ministers and secretaries to also enroll their children in government schools and they should do matriculation there. However, apparently, his proposal was not received well by his fellow Senators.
Presenting a depressing state of education in his province, the Senator said that majority of primary schools in the province consisted of a single teacher and housed in a room.
He pointed out that against the price of an F-16 fighter plane, as many as 5,000 primary schools could be constructed. About the curriculum he alleged those who served the Britishers, were included in history and those who resisted them and fought against them, were not made part of it.
