QUETTA: Unknown armed men shot dead a man over an old enmity in an ice factory, Panjgur town area of Balochistan on Monday.According to police sources, the victim, identified as Nasir Ali was working in the ice factory when three armed men entered and opened fire at him and fled killing him on the spot.

Hangu police nab five outlaws
HANGU: The police claimed to have arrested five outlaws and seized a huge quantity of arms and ammunition here on Monday.The in-charge of the City Police Station said that the police launched search operation in Chamba Gul, Kandu Killay, Shahukhel and adjacent areas and arrested five outlaws.

Ex-Nazim’s brother shot dead in Swat

MINGORA: Unidentified gunmen shot dead the brother of former nazim late Fazal Hayat in Kambar village in the suburbs of Mingora city on Monday, sources said.The sources said that Said Ali was on his way home from the local mosque after offering ‘Isha’ prayer when unidentified gunmen opened fire on him, leaving him dead on the spot. The killers escaped from the scene after committing the murder while the body was shifted to the Saidu Sharif Teaching Hospital for medico-legal formality. It may be added here that former nazim late Fazal Hayat was also gunned down last year.

Two killed, dozens injured as heavy dust

BAHAWALPUR: Two people were killed and dozens of others injured when a heavy dust storm coupled with downpour hit the division on Monday. Dilshad Ahmad of Basti Ali Kharrak near Mubarakpur and his mother were on their way when dust storm uprooted a tree and it fell on them. As a result, Dilshad was killed on the spot while his mother was injured. Dust storm also uprooted electric poles, billboards and roofs of several houses, which left 18 people injured. The injured people were shifted to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital. The dust storm and downpour also damaged wheat crop in the district. Dust storm also hit Khairpur Tamewali, Chishtian and Hasilpur. In Chishtian, an unidentified man was killed when a tree fell on him while many others were injured in different incidents.

44 held, 16 marriage halls sealed in Lahore

LAHORE: District administration continued a crackdown on the violation of one dish and timing during marriage ceremonies being held in different parts of the city. District Coordination Officer (DCO) Lahore Captain Muhammad Usman has constituted special teams in all towns to monitor marriage ceremonies. DCO Lahore said CDGL teams arrested 44 persons for violation of one dish and timing in marriage ceremonies during last 48 hours while 16 marriage halls of the city had also been sealed. A senior official of CDGL said those arrested included a groom, marriage hall owners, managers and groom’s relatives. He said that raiding teams of Gulberg, Nishtar, Samanabad, Aziz Bhatti Town, Shalimar, Iqbal Town and Data Towns on Sunday night traced out violations and captured the culprits and sealed marriage halls. DCO Lahore said that CDGL would continue crackdown until 100 percent implementation of Marriage Act in the provincial metropolis and no relaxation would be given to any person in this regard.

Protest after woman dies in

FAISALABAD: Relatives staged a demonstration after a woman died through the alleged negligence of a lady doctor at the Tandlianwala Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. The protesters were chanting slogans against the lady doctor and others. Talking to newsmen, Rashid of Mohallah Razabad said that he brought his wife Khalida Bibi to the hospital for her delivery. He alleged that the lady doctor demanded Rs 15,000 to handle the delivery case, which he could not arrange. Resultantly, the lady doctor refused and the lady health visitors conducted delivery, which led to the death of Khalida and the baby in her belly.

Six injured by dacoits in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR: Six people were shot at and injured during a dacoity incident near Sabzi Mandi of Chishtian on Sunday night.A wagon was carrying passengers to Chishtian from Chak 202 Murad to attend a conference when four dacoits tried to stop the vehicle on Dharanwala Road. On seeing the dacoits, the driver of the wagon tried to flee from the spot. At this, the dacoits opened fire at the wagon. As a result, six passengers, Muhammad Amir, Muhammad Javed, Saifullah, Muhammad Dilbar, Muhammad Farooq and Muhammad Faisal, sustained bullet injuries. The injured were shifted to the THQ Hospital Chishtian.

Fake degree case adjourned

LAHORE: District and Sessions Judge Tariq Iftikhar on Monday adjourned by April 10 the hearing of a case of fake degree against former PML (N) MPA Shumaila Rana. The court adjourned the hearing after reserving verdict on an acquittal application filed by the accused. Regional Election Commission had filed a suit against Shumaila Rana contending that she had violated representation of people Act 1976 along with section 199 and 200 of PPC. According to the complainant, Rana was not worthy to be member of the provincial legislative assembly and requested the court to punish her in accordance with the law.

Girl gang-raped in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: A 20-year-old girl was abducted and gang-raped here. Muzaffar Shakoor of Bahawalpur and two unidentified people allegedly abducted the girl from her house near Timber Market on April 4. The accused took the girl to an unknown place where they raped her. Later, the accused threw the victim near Gatwala Park. Some passers-by shifted the girl to the Civil Hospital. Jhang Bazaar police have registered a case on the report of the victim’s mother.

Under-trial prisoner dies at hospital

GUJRANWALA: An under-trial prisoner, who was admitted to Mayo Hospital, Lahore, due to illness, died on Monday. Rehmat, son of Sardar Khan, was arrested on the charge of selling narcotics by Ferozewala police.

Accused involved in rape case arrested
FAISALABAD: Police have arrested an accused allegedly involved in abduction cum rape case of a teenage girl from Khurrianwala on Monday.SHO Jhang Bazaar police Muhammad Sarfraz raided at a hideout of the accused in Khurrianwala and arrested the main accused Muzaffar Hussain son of Abdul Rasheed resident of Chak No 181 Imdad tehsil Hasilpur district Bahawalpur and registered a case against him , said police sources here on Monday.Accused Muzaffar Hussain had abducted 18-year-old girl Irm of Lakkar Mandi and take her away to Khurrianwala.The accused along with his accomplices raped and threw her near Gatwala park when she fell unconscious.Raids are being conducted to arrest other accused, said police sources.CPO has directed SHO to complete investigation through DNA test and submit the report in this regard.

Khyber teachers to rally in favour of their demands

JAMRUD: Teachers from Khyber Agency on Monday announced to hold protest rallies to press the government to accept their demands, including their upgradation to next pay scales. Addressing a press conference at the Jamrud Press Club, All Teachers Association Khyber Agency President Nasir Shah Afridi said the teachers would hold protest demonstration outside the Governor’s House and the Fata Secretariat on April 12. He said the demonstration would also be held outside the Parliament House on April 15. He said that Fata teachers had been denied upgradation and complained that people from others areas had been appointed at schools in Khyber Agency.

Smuggled medicines recovered in Lahore

LAHORE: The Health Department drug squad on Monday conducted a raid at a bungalow in the Karim Block and recovered Indian smuggled medicines and operation gadgets to be used in eye surgery worth millions of rupees and arrested a man. On receiving information about the raid, Parliamentary Secretary, Health, Khawaja Imran Nazir, reached the site. Talking to the media, Kh Imran Nazir said on the directives of Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif operation had been started for purging the province of spurious, substandard and smuggled medicines.

KP official held over corruption

PESHAWAR: The NAB, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Monday arrested a municipal officer of Abbottabad on corruption charges. Syed Mehbob Hussain Shah, Assistant Municipal Officer of Municipal Committee Abbottabad, was arrested for allegedly making illegal assets worth millions of rupees. NAB said it had received complaints against the accused along-with suspicious transactions in the salary account. An inquiry was authorized. The inquiry revealed that the accused owned unjustified assets as well as unexplained transactions in his accounts.
