QWP leader injured in Peshawar attack

PESHAWAR: A local leader of Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) sustained injuries when unidentified gunmen opened fire on him on the University Road on Thursday, police officials said.An official said Haider Khan, a leader of the QWP, told police that he was traveling on the University Road when Yousaf and Umair of Danishabad allegedly opened fire on him near the Customs House.He sustained bullet injuries and was shifted to the hospital. The police said the two parties had some dispute.

CTD says militant carrying head money arrested

PESHAWAR: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Thursday arrested an alleged militant carrying a head money of Rs500,000.An official of the CTD said an alleged member of proscribed organisation, Lashkar-e-Islam, Saadat Khan of the Khyber Agency was arrested during an action in Matani.The officials said the accused was involved in the attack on Frontier Constabulary soldiers as well as kidnapping of four of them. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had put Rs 500,000 bounty on the head of the accused.

PTI calls for deploying army in GB during polling

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Thursday called for deployment of Pakistan Army personnel during polling in Gilgit Baltistan on June 9.In a letter to the Gilgit Baltistan chief election commissioner, PTI Secretary General Jehangir Tareen alleged that the ruling PML-N was involved in pre-poll rigging in the region. He charged that though the date of election has been announced, the PML-N is announcing development schemes and even its Governor Ch Barjees Tahir was performing ground breaking of schemes in many localities to influence voters.Similarly, he alleged that postings and transfers, which were banned, were being made in large numbers to the benefit of PML-N candidates.

PHC seeks reply from KP govt in cattle market case

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday sought reply from the provincial government in a writ petition filed against the auction of a cattle market. A two-member bench comprising Justice Nisar Hussain Khan and Justice Qalandar Ali Khan issued a notice to secretary Local Government Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, directing him to explain why the provincial government was auctioning the cattle market of a private person. The Awami National Party (ANP) leader and former provincial minister Arbab Ayub Jan had filed a writ petition against the provincial government, in which he claimed that the provincial government was auctioning his private cattle market in the city. The petitioner’s lawyer, Ghulam Mohayyuddin, submitted before the bench that the provincial government had sent a letter to the Administrator Auqaf, Peshawar directing it to auction the petitioner’s owned private cattle market named “Kala Cattle Market”.

Three suspects held in FR Bannu operation

BANNU: The security forces arrested three suspected persons and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition in Bakkakhel area in Frontier Region (FR) Bannu on Thursday, sources said. The sources said that the security forces launched a search operation near Marwat Canal area in Bakkakhel. They arrested three suspected persons whose identity could not be ascertained as they were shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation. The security forces also recovered arms and ammunition concealed in a field, the sources added.

Teenage girl killed in Bajaur roof collapse

KHAR: A teenage girl was killed while a woman and a minor girl sustained injuries in a roof collapse incident in the Mamond tehsil in the Bajaur Agency on Thursday, official sources said. They said that 13-year-old Saeeda Bibi was killed while a woman identified as Kulsoom Bibi and 10-year-old Husna Bibi sustained injuries when roof of a house collapsed in Malangi area. The injured were shifted to the Agency Headquarters Hospital. Their condition was stated to be stable.

Student commits suicide in Dargai

DARGAI: An eighth class student who failed the examination reportedly committed suicide in Badragga area, local sources said. The deceased student, Nasira Bibi, daughter of Toti Rehman of Momin Killay village, was a student of class eight at the Government Girls High School, Qadir Killay in union council Badragga, in Dargai tehsil. The sources said she was dejected after failing to pass the 8th class examination and she swallowed pesticide to end her life. She was quietly buried in her village. The student had already been engaged to a boy from Badragga.

Missing child found dead

JARANWALA: A missing child was found dead here. Ahsan, 7, of Chak 22/GB had been missing for the last some days. On Thursday, police recovered his body from Chak 238/GB. Police have started investigation after shifting the body to a hospital for autopsy.

Corrupt people should be hanged publicly: Dasti

GUJRANWALA: MNA Jamshed Dasti on Thursday said corrupt people should be hanged publicly to set an example and teach lesson to corrupt elements. Talking to reporters, Dasti alleged that the PML-N leadership had robbed the country of its resources during its tenures. He said Imran Khan had vowed to build a new Pakistan but he did nothing, and disappointed the masses. Dasti is leading a cycle rally against corruption that started from Muzaffarabad and would conclude at Islamabad. The rally reached Gujranwala during Wednesday night and proceeded to Islamabad on Thursday. He called for the arrest of MQM chief Altaf Hussain and investigation against his misdeeds. He said no party had resolved issues of the people.

Christian community member found dead in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: A Christian community member, who was kidnapped eight months ago, was found dead at the Azakhel Park on Thursday, official sources said. Wilson John said that unidentified kidnappers had abducted his son Somal Masih eight months back. “Local people informed me in the morning after citing the body of my son,” he added.

TOBA TEK SINGH: A girl was kidnapped by nine people in Chak 188/GB on Thursday. According to police, Azharan Bibi and her two sisters Mumtaz Bibi and Munizza Bibi were present at their house when accused Sadaqat and his accomplices entered the house. They tied their mouths with clothes and took Azharan Bibi with them.
