ISLAMABAD: The preliminary post-mortem report of foreign journalist Maria Golovnina indicated that she died due to blockage in the upper part of her respiratory tract. The autopsy report mentioned three marks on different parts of her neck, adding that her lips, hands, and feet had turned blue.
The Russian origin journalist Maria Golovnina was found dead in mysterious circumstances in her house in Islamabad on February 23. Maria Golovnina, 38, was Bureau Chief of British based news agency Reuters for Pakistan and Afghanistan since 2013.
The sources, quoting statements of her housemates, said that she died in her bathroom after she vomited.
A staffer found her dead in bathroom of her room and informed the area police. However, she always looked healthy during her job. Maria Golovnina often visited Afghanistan and northern parts of Pakistan for news coverage. Her autopsy was conducted on February 24 and her viscera for chemical examination to ascertain the facts.
Dr Waseem Khawaja, a spokesman for PIMS hospital, when contacted for his opinion, said that apparently she died of her natural death; however, many reasons other than blockage in the upper part of her respiratory tract, could have caused her death. He said the final opinion would be given in the light of chemical examination report.
