MULTAN: The Lahore High Court Multan Bench has ordered release of 22 activists of defunct Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan, who were detained under MPO 3.
The accused include Maulana Alam Tariq, Sohail, Talha, Zahid, Jamshed, Baadiuzzaman, Abdul Hamid Muavia, Hafiz Jabbar Muavia, Qadir, Farooq, Muhammad Nadeem, Haris, Shahid Nadeem and Muzamil Shah.
In a petition, SSP activist Maulana Muhammad Latif said that Tulamba police had registered a case against 14 nominated and 40-50 unidentified accused for chanting slogans against the government when the body of terrorist Ghulam Shabbir alias doctor, who was hanged in the Multan Central Jail on January 7, reached his village. He said that police had arrested 22 accused and produced them before the Multan ATC, who sent them to the jail on a 14-day judicial remand on January 14. He said that the accused were released on bail on January 21 but were arrested under MPO 3 for a month on January 22 on the orders of the Khanewal DCO.
On Tuesday, the DCO appeared before the LHC Multan Bench headed by Justice Tariq Abbasi but failed to give logical reasons for the arrest of the accused under MPO 3. After hearing the arguments, the LHC Multan Bench ordered their release.
