LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday sought a detailed report from the Chiniot DPO (district police officer) about illegal detention of the wife and children of a Ramzan Sugar Mills employee.
The DPO appeared before Justice Mazhar Iqbal Sidhu during in-camera proceedings and expressed his complete ignorance about the matter.
A bailiff had recovered Amina Ali and her four minor children from the Saddar Police Station of Chiniot. Maternal uncle of the woman, Prof Mustajab Qureshi, filed the petition for their recovery.
Expressing serious dismay over the police affairs, the judge asked the officer whether he was DPO of public or the rulers. He directed the DPO to probe into the matter and take the responsible police officials to task.
The judge also handed over SHO Muhammad Younas to the DPO with a direction to take strict action against him. On Wednesday, the judge had placed the SHO under court-arrest. Later, the hearing was adjourned till February 23. Amina told the court that her husband Muhammad Ali, assistant cane manager at Ramzan Sugar Mills, was abducted by the police at the behest of the management. The sugar mill belongs to the Sharif family.
