Baby dies after falling from fourth floor
RAWALPINDI: A 16-month baby girl died after falling from fenceless fourth floor of the Mall Plaza here in the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Cantt on Sunday.Atif told police that her daughter Aayet Fatima died after she fell from the fenceless balcony. The girl suffered serious head injury and died on the spot.The Mall Plaza is being renovated nowadays.

Farmer dies, four hurt in accident

TOBA TEK SINGH: A farmer died while four others sustained injuries in an accident near Pirmahal on Sunday. A speeding truck hit a rickshaw on the Faisalabad-Multan Road near Chak 674/15-GB. As a result, a farmer died on the spot while four others were injured.

They are Hafiz Muhammad Shaban of Chak 16-SP, Hafiz Muhammad Amin of Chak Bhalwal, Hafiz Nazakat Ahmad of Chak Nasir Khan, Maulvi Muhammad Tufail of Chak Faridpur Dogran, Fazal Hussain of Chak 8-SP and Qari Muhammad Shahbaz of Chak 163-EB.

Jeweller’s son kidnapped for Rs 1m ransom

FAISALABAD: The son of a local jeweller was kidnapped for Rs one million ransom. Sixteen-year-old Hashim Islam, son of Mehboob Islam of Haseeb Shaheed Colony, had gone to mosque to offer Friday prayers when unknown people kidnapped him. His relatives launched a search, but to no avail. On Saturday, the kidnappers made a call to Mehboob Islam and demanded Rs one million for his release. They threatened to kill the abductee if the ransom was not paid within 24 hours. They also threatened the jeweller with dire consequences if the ransom was not paid. The police have registered a case against the abductors under section 365-A of the PPC.

Search operation against terror suspects under way

LAHORE: The Lahore police carried out search operation across the provincial metropolis to round up suspects. At least 4,826 people were checked during the last two days of the search operation and eight suspects were detained as they could not produce their identity. Similarly, police took action against 46 people under Section 55/109. Police also checked some 389 tenants and arrested one person.

Childless woman set on fire in Lahore

LAHORE: A woman received burn injuries when her mother-in-law threw kerosene oil at her and set her alight in Musti Gate area on Sunday. Victim Shama Bibi, wife of Akram, of Musti Gate was issueless for a long time. She was often taunted by her mother-in-law Nasreen Bibi in this regard. On the day of incident, Shama was cooking food when Nasreen threw kerosene on her and set her on fire. As a result she received critical burn injuries. She was shifted to hospital where her condition was said to be critical.

512 booked over graffiti in Lahore
LAHORE: Lahore police has arrested 127 accused in 512 cases on charges of graffiti, misuse of loud speakers and publication of hate literature. Police in a cleanup operation under National Action Plan seized 137 loudspeakers, amplifiers, books, pamphlets and CDs containing hate literature from the detained accused.DIG (operations) Dr Haider Ashraf warned strict action against violators of the National Action Plan. He directed action against sellers of hate material and CDs. He directed all police officers to seek an undertaking from administrations of mosques and Imambargahs for not delivering provocative speeches.

Booklet for improving skills of KP cops published

PESHAWAR: The Forensic Science Department of the KP Police has published a 55-page booklet for improving the skills of the cops getting training in fingerprint science. “The publication has been brought out for those who are getting training in fingerprint science. Before this, there were books in English that resulted in difficulties for the cops. The books in Urdu were not according to the modern day knowledge of fingerprint science,” said Qurysh Khan, the director of the Forensic Science Department of the KP Police in the foreword. He said the book had discussed all the angles of the fingerprint science in simple words. The book includes introduction of the fingerprint science, various kinds of finger prints, basic principles, the gadgets being used in the practice and other topics.

Five mortar shells found near Sadiqgarh Palace

BAHAWALPUR: Five mortar shells, packed in a sack, were found near Sadiqgarh Palace at Dera Nawab Sahib on Sunday afternoon. As receiving information, the bomb disposal squad from Bahawalpur immediately reached the spot and defused the shells. Talking to The News, ASP Mehzor Ali Ghauri said someone was carrying the shells but left those near the palace, smelling check-up as the police had launched a search operation in Ahmadpur East.

New block at Jhelum school

JHELUM: The foundation stone of the Mehar Ali Shaheed Block at the Government High School for Boys, Chakri Rajgan, was laid here on Sunday. DCO Zulfiqar Ahmad and GOC Maj-Gen Sher Afghan laid the foundation stone of the new block, which was named after Mehar Ali, a martyred student of the APS, Peshawar. The block would be constructed at a cost of Rs 5.066 million while GOC Maj-Gen Sher Afghan donated Rs 100,000 for the construction of the new block.

Girl killed over marriage issue

KASUR: A girl was killed while her brother and sister were injured over a marriage dispute at Tara Gurh village on Sunday. Muhammad Abbas and accused Fiaz Ahmed had a marriage dispute. On the day of the incident, accused Fiaz and his accomplices entered the house of Muhammad Abbas and allegedly opened fire at the family members. As a result, Umtal (17) was killed on the spot while Shafqat Bibi and her brother Akbar sustained injuries.

Missing man found dead near Daska

SIALKOT: An eight-year-old child was killed during a jubilant firing in a marriage function at Chak Bagga in Sabzpir police limits on Sunday. The marriage function of two brothers – Qaisar and Mehmood – was under way when some of the participants resorted to aerial firing in jubilation. As a result, a bullet hit grooms’ nephew Ahmad, injuring him seriously. He was shifted to a hospital where he died. Police have started investigations.

HAFIZABAD: A five-year-old boy died after falling into an open manhole here on Saturday. Muhammad Kashif with his father Muhammad Dawood had gone to a marriage hall to attend a wedding when he accidentally fell into a nearby open manhole and died. After the incident, DCO Muhammad Usman reached the house of the victim and ordered a case against the responsible TMA officials. On his orders, the Jalalpur Bhattian police registered a case against Pindi Bhattian TMO Intesam Shah, the TO I&S and Sub-Engineers Muhammad Bilal and Sajjad on the charge of negligence. Meanwhile, DCO Muhammad Usman has also suspended the booked officials.

Notorious human smuggler held

GUJRANWALA: The FIA claimed to have arrested a notorious human smuggler from Heelan Chung, Phalia. On a tip-off, a team led by SI Zahid Farooq raided the place and arrested Tahir Muhammad Khan, son of Amir Khan. The accused had extorted millions of rupees from dozens of people on the pretext of sending them Turkey and Greece. He was wanted in eight cases.
