The Democrats Panel once again won the annual elections of the Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Saturday, but the contest for the president’s slot tied between Imtiaz Khan Faran of The Democrats and Ahmed Khan Malik of the United Panel as both polled 579 votes each.

All other candidates of The Democrats panel, including their candidate for secretary Arman Sabir, candidate for vice president Saeed Sarbazi, candidate for treasurer Raja Kamran and candidate for joint secretary Saqib Sagheer, got elected comfortably.

A neck-and-neck fight was witnessed for the post of the KPC president between two former presidents Imtiaz Khan Faran and Ahmed Khan Malik, compelling the supporters of the United Panel to call for a third recount, which showed each got 579 votes.

The Democrats panel also won all the seven seats of the Governing Body. The elected Governing Body members are Abdul Jabbar Nasir, Abdul Waheed Rajpar, Atiq-ur-Rehman, Beena Qayyom, Muhammad Liaquat Ali Mughal, Saeed Ahmed Lashari and Zain Ali.

The other candidates for the United Panel were Faizal Lakhani (secretary), Salik Malik (vice president), M. Naeem Khokhar (treasurer), Liaquat Ali Rana (joint secretary), and Governor Body candidates Qaseem Saeed, Rahib Gaho, Saba Sultan, Shahid Iqbal, Shamim Akhtar, Asif Ali Syed and Vakeel Ahmed Rao.
