All steps to be taken to improve security situation
COAS meets PM

ISLAMABAD: The civil and military leadership on Friday expressed the resolve to take all the steps to improve the security situation in the country.
The civil and military leaders also reiterated not to give in to any pressure or tactics on the the country’s nuclear capability since it is a pre-requisite to Pakistan’s defence.
The understanding was expressed in a meeting here between Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the PM House on Friday.
The meeting is significant in the backdrop of the PM’s scheduled official visit to the US later this month and his meetings with US President Obama and other US leaders.
General Raheel briefed the PM on the decisions of corps commanders meeting on Thursday while the PM discussed with General Raheel Sharif the proceedings of recently-concluded UN General Assembly session in New York. The two expressed satisfaction over the position Pakistan took on the ocsasion.
Highly-placed sources told The News that the PM and COAS also deliberated upon the overall security situation in and around the country with special reference to the ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb and elimination of terrorism.
The situation on the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working Boundary and belligerent Indian posture also came under discussion besides Pak efforts for peace.
It has been decided that the operation in Karachi, flushing out insurgents from Balochistan and elimination of terrorists from the tribal areas will continue at an accelerated pace.
The meeting continued for three hours and was later joined by Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Adviser to PM on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz, Special Adviser to PM Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Rashid Mahmood, Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lt Gen Zubair Hayat, DG ISI Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar Malik, DG ISPR Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa, Secretary to PM Haji Javaid Aslam, Additional Secretary Fawad Hasan Fawad and Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry.
Addressing the meeting, the PM said that all measures would be taken to improve the security situation in the country.
Both the meetings lasted for over five hours. The participants offered the Friday prayers at the PM House’s mosque.
