Heatstroke lands several in Peshawar hospitals

PESHAWAR: Several heatstroke patients were brought to the hospitals in the provincial capital as several parts of the province remained in the grip of severe heat on the second consecutive day on Sunday.
The mercury in the provincial capital soared to 43 degree Celsius, forcing the residents to remain indoors. However, several children and elders were brought to the hospitals after their condition deteriorated owing to dehydration.
“My son suffered dehydration and I had no option but to shift him to the hospital,” said a man at the Lady Reading Hospital. He said kids and the elders had been suffering due to the prolonged loadshedding.Water shortage was reported from several areas of the provincial metropolis. Zaryab Colony was among such hit-hard localities.
Machine at the tubewell went out of order on Saturday. Residents were facing problems as tubewell had not been providing water for the last two days. The markets and bazaars also wore a deserted look due to severe heat though the Eid shopping is at its peak.
Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 service has issued alert in view of the new heat wave. According to Recue 1122 spokesman Bilal Ahmad Faizi, medicines and other equipment have been provided to the ambulances and leaves of the staff members have been cancelled.
