KARACHI: Piku is an upcoming and very entertaining, engaging comedy-drama Indian film directed by Shoojit Sircar. Deepika Padukone portrays the main protagonist, a Bengali architect living in New Delhi, and Amitabh Bachchan plays her ageing father. The film explores the dynamics of their relationship as they take a road trip to Kolkata.
Irrfan Khan, Moushumi Chatterjee and Jishu Sengupta portray supporting roles. Piku is scheduled to be released on May 8 by Geo Films across Pakistan. Deepika Padukone is being paired with Irrfan Khan for the first time. The actress, known for her lively nature on the sets, decided to do a different role.
Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming film, Piku, in a quirky way, will deal with a subject that is very important in each of our lives. The director has opted to tell his the story through the lives of an independent girl, Piku (played by Deepika Padukone) and her journey with her cranky, hyper, attention-seeking father, Baba (played by India’s finest actor Amitabh Bachchan).
Piku is a performance-based film that is not just about the unconditional love between a daughter and her father, but is progressive and hopes to make you talk to your parents about things we don’t usually talk about, Shoojit Sircar said.
Deepika Padukone says her personality resembles her titular character in Piku. “I’m happy to leave the professionals to do my hair, makeup and styling — this is required of me in my profession and they do a great job out of it.
However, personally, my style is a lot like Piku — very breezy, functional and comfortable,” the 29-year-old actress told the media. Speaking about her character’s style in the film, Deepika added: “I think Piku tries to keep her look stylish and functional at the same time. She believes in looking presentable, stylish and at the same time be comfortable at work.
The style in the film is also like that — Piku works in daytime, runs the house and takes care of her father as well.”The collection takes inspiration from Deepika’s ‘modern meets ethnic’ styling and aims at giving consumers access to her style as seen in the film. With a tagline ‘Motion Se Hi Emotion’, the film promises to take the audience on an emotional road trip.
The film is about how a dapper, young man is forced to ferry a dysfunctional father (Amitabh Bachchan) and his daughter (Deepika Padukone) from Varanasi to Kolkata. As Amitabh Bachchan’s accent in Piku thrills the Bengali-speaking world, here is a ready reckoner of what we know about the film, co-starring Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan so far. Irrfan Khan, as Rana Chaudhary, runs the Himachal Taxi Service. Piku doesn’t ‘need’ his taxis but reluctantly orders one when her father has to be carted around to places and for party.
