Says serious steps being taken to overcome energy shortages

LAHORE: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Friday said the government was promoting politics of consensus. He said the PML-N wanted to take all the political parties on board on all matters of national importance.
The prime minister was talking to PML-F leaders, including Pir Syed Sibghat Ullah Shah Rashidi and Pir Syed Sadruddin Shah Rashidi, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis.The PML-F leaders informed the prime minister that action against miscreants and criminals in Karachi will go a long way in restoring peace in the metropolitan city, a statement from the PM House said.
Administrative measures taken by the federal government in Sindh province and the overall political situation in the country also came under discussion.
Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif was also present during the meeting. – Agencies Muhammad Saleh Zaafir adds from Islamabad: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that the government has made investor-friendly policies to encourage foreign investment in Pakistan, particularly in the sector of power generation.
The incentives offered by the government in this regard are unprecedentedly encouraging and they will pave the way for enhancing investments in Pakistan, he said. The prime minister was talking to a delegation of China Gezhouba Group Investment Holding Company that had a meeting with the prime minister here and it was led by its Chief Financial Officer Lin Xiaodan.
The members of the delegation eulogised investment policies of the government and said that the same are encouraging the Chinese companies to come here in big way. The prime minister told the delegation that the government was taking serious steps to overcome the energy shortage in the country.
The delegation expressed interest in investing in the Neelam-Jhelum hydroproject as well as in coal-fired, LNG based and solar power plants in Pakistan. They informed the prime minister that the Chinese government was encouraging Chinese businesses to benefit from the investor-friendly policies of the Government of Pakistan.
The prime minister said the government had fixed timelines for all projects and any company undertaking energy projects in the country was expected to follow them strictly so that high demand of electricity in the country could be met within the stipulated timeframe.
He said that Pakistan-China relationship was unmatched and more and more economic cooperation will strengthen the bonds of friendship, taking it to a higher level. The delegation also briefed the prime minister on its meetings with various officials in Islamabad. Federal ministers Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, and Khawaja Muhammad Asif also attended the meeting.
