Without publicising and on the basis of information collected from residents, a scheme has been launched in the DHA Phase 2 ward to provide essential food items quietly to those white-colour people, including widowed and divorced women, who are needy and affected because of the lockdown but cannot ask for help.
Muhammad Jamil, a councillor of the CBC Ward 4, who initiated the campaign, said that he had learnt that many families living in commercial areas of his constituency had been facing a shortage of food items because of the lockdown. “Most of the residents are salaried and self-employed people and the lockdown has affected them badly too,” said Jamil. “White-collar people always remained ignored in relief activities.”
He said that with the financial assistance of some affluent residents, a team had been distributing rations at the doorsteps of these needy people in the night. “It is on a self-help basis and we are ensuring rashan at the doorsteps of needy and white-collar families who are in dire need of food and groceries under lockdown."
Jamil also requested other affluent people to come forward and quietly help the needy people during the pandemic.
