Cattle market set up amid corona threat

BAHAWALPUR: The cattle market of the city, which was closed due to threat of coronavirus, was set up again here on Wednesday. Thousands of people, both sellers and buyers, who came from Sindh, Balochistan, KP and other far-flung areas of Punjab, reached the cattle market to buy animals. The decision had caused a great fear among the people of Bahawalpur due to establishment of the cattle market.The people said that the visitors could infected each other as they were unaware of all precautionary measures and roaming fearlessly without having masks and other protective measures. When contacted, the cattle market contractor said that the opening of cattle market was allowed in a notification of the lockdown issued by the government of Punjab.However, when The News contacted with the district administration spokesman for comments, he said that the cattle market was situated in the jurisdiction of Bahawalpur Cantonment Board and he could not comment on the issue.
