Accountability?
This refers to the editorial, 'Accountability' (March 28), which has rightly criticized the government and NAB on the recent arrests of Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman and former prime minister Khaqan Abbasi. Calling them for investigation and courting their arrest are two different things. Keeping people in jail for months and them superior courts granting them bails raises questions on NAB’s transparency. In fact, in such cases the superior courts should free the accused. The eecent warrants of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on illegal hiring must have shocked the nation. It has always been the prerogative of the CEO of any corporation to induct people of its own choice so what is wrong with it? Justice should not just be done but should be seen to have been done too. Putting in jail big names without substantive evidence does make a headline but is tantamount to bringing country in disrepute. It is time to revisit our SOPs on arrests and amend laws so that justice can be seen to be done in a just manner.
