NOWSHERA: Additional Assistant Commissioner Hajira Sami was taken to the Qazi Medical Complex after showing symptoms for coronavirus and later her samples were sent to the laboratory of Khyber Medical College Peshawar for the test of viral disease on Monday.

The official was quarantined at her home located on the Warsak Road, Peshawar, to contain the spread of fast-travelling coronavirus. “I have been performing the field duty during the prevailing coronavirus pandemic at the virus-hit Mohallah Rahimabad in Badrashi for the last two weeks,” she told The News, adding that she later locked down the said mohalla after a patient of the locality tested positive for the coronavirus. Hajira Sami said that she was suffering from fever and sore throat, so she considered it necessary to undergo a test for the viral disease.

Meanwhile, Deputy Medical Superintendent and focal person for isolation ward in Qazi Medical Complex, Dr Zahid Khan, said that seven more suspected patients of coronavirus, including AAC Hjira Sami, were brought to the hospital for test and treatment. He said samples of the suspected patients had been sent to the laboratory of the Khyber Medical University, Peshawar.

The focal person said one of the suspected patients, Taj Bibi, the 85-year old woman from New Dagikhel in Nowshera Kalaan, was suffering from multiple health complications. The ailing woman, he said, had been isolated in the ward as she was suffering from cardiac, lungs, flu, fever and other diseases. Dr Zahid said that six other suspected patients had been sent homes at their will to adopt preventive steps including quarantining. Briefing the media-persons, Deputy Commissioner Shahid Ali Khan said that over 250 members of the 21 Tablighi Jamaat (religious preachers groups) from Raiwind and others from foreign countries were quarantined in the 15 mosques of the district for suspected coronavirus disease. The official said that mosques, where religious preachers were quarantined, had been sealed and being guarded by police.

He said that locals were quarantined at their homes while non-locals and foreigners were kept isolated in the 15 mosques. The official said the action was taken in view of most of those results reported positive for coronavirus who had attended Tablighi Ijtima (religious congregation) in Raiwind recently. He said that action was also taken against hoarders and profiteers in the district.
