Morsi’s moment

By our correspondents
November 29, 2015
This refers to the article, ‘Pakistan’s Morsi (or el-Sisi) moment is passed’ (November 24) by Ayaz Amir. Yes, much to the dismay of some hopefuls of the shortcut to power, this coveted change has not happened. The PTI, banking on mid-term elections with dreams of a landslide victory, has been considerably sobered by eye-opening defeats in a series of by-polls and local bodies elections.
This is an ideal situation for the government to work in peace. There is a lot to do for the country and its people. There is a need to address issues such as bad governance on an urgent basis if the PML-N wants to remain popular. Measures to curb inflation and improve education and health services should be the chief priorities of the government. The conditions for an uninterrupted and functioning democracy have never been as favourable as they are in Pakistan today.
