The residents of the Sindhi Jamaat Cooperative Housing Society and neighbouring areas staged a protest in front of the Karachi Press Club on November 13 after a nine-year-old girl, Aqsa Ramzan Panhwar, was killed by a truck driver while crossing the main National Highway in Malir. This incident is not an isolated one, as two more schoolchildren were also killed recently while crossing the main highway in the same area. The SJCH has at least three schools in the area, which has resulted in heavy traffic that makes it difficult for them to cross the roads easily.
About six years back, I had written to the KMC authorities requesting them to construct an overhead bridge in the vicinity. They replied claiming that this case had been forwarded to the concerned department. Needless to say, no further action has been taken since. On behalf of the residents of the area, I appeal to the Sindh minister, commissioner of Karachi, KMC administrator and all other concerned to construct an overhead bridge on priority basis before more lives are lost.
