My child is a student of class III in one of the leading English medium private schools of Peshawar. Recently, I asked her to write the word ‘Pakistan’ in Urdu but she failed to spell it correctly. Next, I asked her to write ‘Peshawar’ but she misspelled it in Urdu as well as in English. This is despite the fact that she had all straight ‘As’ with a few ‘A+’. When I approached her school, its administration argued that Urdu and spellings are not that important.
This is the current state of education in our country. Where should we take our children? In the absence of standard curriculum and no regulations, this situation cannot be corrected. All political parties say that education is important and is their priority but one wonders when this claim will materialise.
