Nepra has disclosed revealing facts in its annual report which was made public recently. It points out glaring and intentional acts of omission and commission by the government. The report states that the electricity shortfall is fake and artificial, and loadshedding is intentionally created. Moreover, the new meter system is defective. Thus people are sent excessive bills. The management of thermal power plants have intentionally shut down plants. Some of the power plants have been lying idle for the last three years.
The report has also raised questions about the performance of the Jinnah Hydropower Project. Even after spending a huge sum of Rs17 billion the plant is not producing electricity to its maximum capacity due to faults. The agencies concerned have created the energy crisis for their own personal interests. It is strange that power plants have been shut down at a time when oil prices are low internationally. It has become cheaper to produce electricity with oil. About 70 percent consumers are sent incorrect excessive bills. The authorities concerned are requested to take corrective measures.
