Abdul Hafeez Pirzada was an eminent lawyer. He was a third generation barrister of Lincoln’s Inn, a lawmaker and constitutional expert. He was credited with authoring the 1973 Constitution. Pirzada was also the founding member of the PPP. He was a close associate of Z A Bhutto and was a leading member of the legal team that represented the former prime minister in the murder case against him. He held several cabinet positions in the Bhutto government.
After the 1977 coup, he was arrested along with Dr Mubashar Hassan on September 12, 1977 by the military police. He was detained till 1978. After Bhutto’s hanging he left the country and spent most of his time in exile in the UK.
