I was listening to a mother of one of the victims of the Peshawar attack. She demanded that December 16 should be officially declared as a national day of remembrance. In addition, she requested that it should be made part of history books so that their children’s sacrifice can be remembered for ever.
I think this is the least we can do to show our support and solidarity with the victims’ families. Successful nations do not forget such tragic events. They use them as a symbol of resilience and motivation for counter-actions against their enemies. Look at the US: it used the 9/11 tragedy as a motivational force to strengthen people’s resolve that they would never let anything like this happen again. I hope her plea is heard by the government before it is too late.
