People who believe in the supremacy of the law were shocked to see the footage of masked men – police commandos – who took the law into their hands by beating supporters of Dr Zulfiqar Mirza and then turned to journalists covering the event. They smashed parked vehicles and snatched cameras from journalists. What was more condemnable is the fact that the incident took place at the SHC premises.
The press conference by Karachi Police Chief Ghulam Qadir Thebo may be termed a joke for claiming that 11 suspected terrorists who were supporters of Dr Mirza reportedly attacked the police force but he could not justify action against journalists who were performing their duties. This reminds me the days of General Ayub Khan when such violent events were common
