Hot weather coupled with unannounced loadshedding for more than 10 hours a day in some localities has multiplied problems for the people of Karachi. We, the residents of Scheme 33, have been facing nine hours of loadshedding every day. This is in addition to cable tripping, which occurs at least twice a week.
K-Electric has divided localities into four categories. It cuts power for up to nine hours in localities where power theft is high, around seven hours where it is categorised as medium and four hours where it is low. In areas where power theft is deemed insignificant there is no loadshedding. If the authorities concerned know the localities where power theft is rampant then why are they not taking steps to eliminate it? Is it fair to punish the whole community for the actions of a few?
