It is pretty evident that the habit of reading is slowly dying as new technologies and addictions are emerging. People are super busy with the virtual world they have created for themselves. Before it is too late, something must be done about this. Many NGOs are working towards different causes; promoting a love for reading should be one of them.
More public libraries should be set up and made accessible to people. There should be campaigns across educational institutions to offer separate courses or classes for reading. A good example is the Reader’s Club in the Karachi University that offers students a chance to enhance their reading, writing, and speaking skills. Educational institutions must play their role starting from the primary school level. The realisation of the importance of reading will bring the change that we are looking for. We have almost forgotten the importance of reading and that can be one of the reasons we are lagging behind in so many areas.
