A greater number of Muslims are becoming victims of hate crime, particularly in the west. Take for example the Chapel Hill killing in the US that took place on February 10 in which three people – a newly-wed couple and the woman’s sister were shot dead. They were young university students. The victims’ families described it as a hate crime.
Those who knew the victims said they were all model students from well-educated and successful local families. They had nonetheless run into previous problems over parking with the man who was arrested. The father of the two women who were killed said Yusor had told him that she and her husband had been harassed for their appearance by a neighbour who was wearing a gun on his belt. We should raise our voice against such actions because ‘Muslim lives matter’ too.
