The government of Pakistan has been making efforts to make its foreign policy diverse, effective and productive. The recent visit of the Turkish PM can be viewed in this perspective. The leadership of both the countries announced their resolve to jointly fight terrorism; boost bilateral trade ties; take trade liberalisation initiatives; and enhance cooperation in the energy sector, maritime, railways and other fields.
Both countries agreed to finalise the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) at the earliest, which will boost trade to $10 billion in the coming years. The Turkish PM also announced $20 million assistance for the rehabilitation of IDPs. Glued together by centuries-old cultural, religious and economic bonds, friendly ties with Turkey will strengthen and raise our stature in the international diplomacy. It is hoped the government will keep up its promising foreign policy vision to best serve our national interests.
