This refers to the article, ‘Defending our schools’ (January 12) by Amir Zia. Merely raising school walls, posting guards and putting up fences cannot deter terrorists. When they can attack our highly-guarded security installations, all other buildings are soft targets to them. The solution does not lie in greater security but in taking on terrorists head-on throughout the country. There can be no two opinions when the writer suggests that Operation Zarb-e Azb should be extended to the entire country, but leaving it alone to the army will be wrong.
The basic responsibility rests with the provincial governments to clean their respective domains of terrorists. Half-hearted measures and compromises will render the entire exercise useless. We must understand that we are at war and our survival lies in a united front. We have to draw the line at militancy. There is only one choice for Pakistan: to fight collectively and win the war on terror or perish forever as suggested by the writer.
