KARACHI: Pakistan’s Tayyab Aslam is seeded second in the WSF World Junior Individual Championships that is to be held in Eindhoven, Netherlands, from July 26–30.
According to the draws released by World Squash Federation (WSF) on Wednesday, Tayyab is seeded second, while Israr Ahmed is seeded 5/8. Asim Khan, Abbas Shoukat, and Ahsan Ayaz remain unseeded.
Also, all Pakistani players got byes in the first round except Abbas who would face Dnymtro Pogrebnyak of Ukraine. The WSF World Junior Championships 2015 will be staged at the 15-court Squashtime Centre in Eindhoven in the Netherlands. More than 170 players from 34 nations are competing in this event.
The WSF stated that this year’s World Junior Individual Squash Championships titles will be shared by Peru and Egypt with Lima-based Diego Elias and Alexandria-born Habiba Mohamed seeded to retain the titles they won for the first time last year in Namibia.
It is to be noted that Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) will take five players for the first time in this championship and they are fully sponsored by the federation.
“Historically, only two or three players from Pakistan used to take part in this individual event, but this time we have decided to focus on it and give our players an opportunity to play this big event,” said Secretary PSF Amir Nawaz.
Amir said he would accompany the players as their manager and Fahim Gul would be the coach.
“We would try to reach there by 23rd. The conditions are ok for our players. This event would provide them with good exposure to competitive squash at such a big level, and it would help them improve their performance,” added Amir.
In the last edition of the championship, Israr managed to reach fourth round while Tayyab lost in the quarters. Only Abbas and Ahsan are playing this championship for the first time.
