SUKKUR: BISP Chairperson and Minister of State Marvi Memon has said that infants’ deaths in Tharparkar had occurred due to malnutrition.
Addressing Meet The Press programme at the Badin Press Club on Sunday, she said that malnutrition had caused deaths of infants in Tharparkar.To improve the malnutrition condition overall, the BISP has increased the basic stipend of the BISP families from Rs4,500 to 4,700 with effect from July 2015.
Marvi said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar are committed to alleviating poverty in the country. The BISP has created a web portal where the BISP families can upload pictures of their work like hand embroidery, etc.
She said that she was going to Thar to condole the deaths of infants. There is a malnutrition issue in Thar and deaths of infants are occurring because of it. She said the prime minister and the finance minister had conducted successful talks with the World Food Program (WFP) and they will soon initiate their activities in Thar to deal with the malnutrition problem.
