Modern education, use of technology pivotal for uplift, says Dr AQ Khan

Modern education and utilisation of latest technology in the field of research plays a pivotal role for economic development. In today`s world, educational institutions are recognised due to quality research and academic activities associated with their faculty.
This was said by renowned scientist, Dr Abdul Qadir Khan while addressing the 15th governing council meeting of the Dr A.Q. Khan Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering of University of Karachi (KIBGE) on Wednesday.
Dr Khan claimed the KU was among the top Pakistani universities listed in the global ranking, further adding that the varsity provides leadership to the country and the society.
“I had always wanted to serve the people of Pakistan and in particular people of Karachi,” he said. “Dr A.Q. Khan Institute of Biotechnology was the actualisation of my dream.” He said the KIBGE was founded to empower the Pakistani scientists in accordance with the modern needs of the contemporary world.
Dr Khan said that he was very happy to see it progressing under the visionary leadership of Professor Dr Abid Azhar.
“He (Dr Azhar) has taken the institute to the new heights of success, by making it a pioneer international research institute,” he said.
The meeting was presided over by the varsity`s vice-chancellor, Professor Dr Muhammad Qaiser. The performance report of KIBGE was also presented on the occasion by its director general, Professor Dr Abid Azhar.
The participants were informed that the KIBGE has so far produced one DSc. 42 PhD and four M.Phil students. Along with 521 research publications in reputed international and national research journals. Furthermore, it has also organised more than 100 international and national conferences and workshops.
Speaking on the occasion, the Professor Dr Qaiser said that the KIBGE has emerged as a significant and prime centre of modern learning and research source on the contemporary needs of today.
He said that the presence and arrival of Dr A.Q Khan at the varsity was a moment of pride and honour for the academia.
Later, the Governing Council offered Fateha for the departed soul of Professor M Ataur Rahman, who was associated with KIBGE, in the latter years of his life.
