LAHORE
A judicial magistrate of Cantonment Courts on Saturday reserved verdict on an application of actress Meera for halting proceedings of a private complaint filed by a local businessman Attiqur Rehman, who claims to be husband of the actress.
The counsel of Meera argued that the plaintiff (Rehman) had failed to produce any document to prove his allegation for the last seven years. He said the petitioner was a “psycho lover” of his client and wanted to defame Meera by frivolous litigation.
Moreover, the counsel said the matter was of civil nature and criminal proceedings could not be initiated in it. He asked the magistrate to stop proceedings on the private complaint filed by Attiqur Rehman. The magistrate after hearing the arguments reserved verdict on the application.
Complainant Attiqur Rehman in his private complaint had alleged that Meera committed a crime by contracting marriage with Captain Naveed as she was still his (petitioner) wife.
He said Meera had wed Naveed without dissolution of her previous marriage.
He further accused Meera of occupying his house in DHA.
He sought a court’s direction for police to take action against Meera followed by registration of a criminal case.
