KARACHI: BASF will present a range of solutions to help Pakistan’s leather industry lower carbon and toxicity footprint, as well as reducing water and energy at the 2nd Pakistan Mega Leather Show to take place from January 27 to 29, a statement said on Thursday.
At the show, BASF will demonstrate its beam house system, DryFast, which combines the advantages of a range of products with a solution that significantly reduces water, energy and process time for the tanneries, it said.
Through an efficient combination of optimised process steps, effluents contain fewer chemicals and several washing steps can be avoided – thus, reducing the water use.
“With more than 800 tanneries nationwide, Pakistan’ leather industry exports quality finished leather and leather products to meet an increasing international demand. At the same time, the industry is working to meet stringent international standards for environmental protection and better working conditions.
BASF helps tanneries achieve these goals with innovative chemistry for high performance leather that also helps reduce environmental impact,” said Faisal Akhtar, managing director of BASF Chemicals and Polymers Pakistan (Private) Limited.
